BIO

BIO

I really owe this career choice to my younger brother. When I was in middle school, he got a part in Canton, GA's community theater's production of The Best Christmas Pagent Ever. I think I was a bit jealous of all the attention he received. I knew I could one-up-him, so I auditioned for the next show the community theater put on, The Pirates of Penzance, and was cast as Fredrick. To this day I still have very vivid memories of the rehearsals for that show. After playing Fredrick I never looked back. I continued on doing theater and started singing lessons. In high school, I was in almost every production, and I sang solos in church regularly.

When it came time for me to go to college, I knew that I wanted to continue performing. Singing at this point had become more my focus, so I auditioned at Mercer University (the family alma mater). After my audition, the choir director walked out of the hall straight to my parents and said "how much do you need to get him here." So off to college I went as a music major. And I loved it. So much so that I continued on to do my Master's in Music at Rice University.

It was at Rice that I began to realize that maybe singing wasn't completely where my heart was. In the final semester of my Master's program, we performed a program of songs from Sondheim musicals (a fun departure from Donizetti, Mozart, Handel, and the like). I was assigned John Wilkes Booth's song from Assassins. I approached performing this piece so differently from everything else I had sung at while at Rice. I focused primarily on trying to understand Booth's perspective (as twisted as it was) and find a way to convey that to the audience. And I didn't worry too much about how the singing sounded. I was shocked at the amount of praise I received from my friends, the faculty and staff, and the audience. And more importantly, I felt so much more fulfilled. It turns out that what I had always loved about performing was storytelling. So I set out to try to tell more stories.

Houston, TX, where Rice is located, has a very robust professional theater scene. And after a few auditions, I was able to break my way in. I would go from show to show to show to show. If I went more than a month not working on something, I started to feel crazy and restless. After a few years of performing in Houston, I decided I wanted to move to New York to try my hand at a bigger market. Since then I have done numerous national commercials, some indie films, some TV, and studied with some of the industry's best. I also met the most amazing woman (who has likely edited this bio) and had a little girl named Violet. And despite it being almost 25 years since my very first role, I am still searching for stories to tell.

So if you want to tell a story together, give me a shout...
